Rainy weather prevailed when Aquila Formula 1000, the Nordic region’s leading entry-level series in formula car racing, ran the sixth race of the year at Gelleråsen in Karlskoga.

Wet conditions presented the drivers with a real challenge, as Aquila Formula 1000 raced alongside the SSK series at Gelleråsen.

In the Senior Championship, Danish Kevin Suenson was able to extend his lead over the weekend. Suenson won race two, and took another second place at Gelleråsen. This means that the reigning champion now has a 32-point margin over Elias Adestam in the super even championship.

I think me and the team got the best possible result. To get as many points as possible was the goal, and that we got so many in relation to the other good drivers is great. They are hard fighters, but we will push the plate into the mat for the rest of the season, says Kevin Suenson.

Joel Granfors had a strong weekend in Karlskoga. Granfors, who normally competes in USF Pro 2000 in the USA, was fastest in qualifying and won the final race.

In the Junior Championship, Andreas Skatteboe was the strongest over the weekend, and is now second behind Dante Johansson. Viktor Karlsson chases, only 13 points behind Skatteboe.

– Another weekend that I am very satisfied with. I didn’t really have the speed to keep up with the absolute front, but managed to stay on the track the whole time despite the difficult conditions. Now I just have to pick up the pace again, so I can fight for the overall victory, says Andreas Skatteboe.

Date Johansson, who led from the early stages of the season is still at the top of the Junior Championship. Dante was also strong at Gelleråsen, winning the first race overall and finishing as best junior in race three. In the second race, however, Johansson spun in the difficult conditions and was left with no points.

Alexia Danielsson again had a strong weekend, and became the third best scorer among the juniors. Danielsson consolidated her fifth place in the table ahead of Rodrigo Seabra from Portugal. Seabra who took a fine third place in the final race at Gelleråsen.

Louise Larsson made her debut in Aquila Formula 1000, and got some extra experience before next weekend’s sub-competition in the NXT Gen Cup at Gelleråsen. Louise got two 14th places from the debut weekend.

Next up is the 2023 season penultimate race at Kinnekulle Ring on 1-3 September, also that one together with the SSK series.

– When I saw how the weather was shaping up for the weekend, I have to admit that I became a little thoughtful. A full 60 millimeters of rain fell during the weekend. But the drivers kept it together superbly, and Saturday’s race was probably one of the best performed by Aquila Formula 1000. A real thrill all the way to the finish line, says Mikael Karpers, promoter of Aquila Formula 1000.
