Aquila Formula 1000 ready for season finale at Falkenbergs Motorbana

On Saturday, the Aquila Formula 1000, the Nordic region’s premier entry-level series in formula car racing, will be decided when this year’s final is run together with the SSK series at Falkenbergs Motorbana. A total of 23 drivers are on the starting line, and the medal battles in all four championships will now be decided during an intense final day on the west coast.

Ahead of the final, Andreas Skatteboe is already the clear champion in the senior class, and Linus Stjernelund has secured the title in the Rookie Championship. But the fight for the overall championship lives on – where Stjernelund still has a chance to overtake Skatteboe. At the same time, he also tops the Junior RM ahead of Saturday’s four points-giving moments: qualifying and three races. There are a total of 120 points to be overtaken during the busy Saturday.

“Falkenberg is one of the easier tracks to be fast on, so I think there will be a really big cluster in the fight for the win. The goal for the weekend is to secure the title – there is a decent margin to Linus in second place, but with the tight schedule anything can happen,” says Andreas Skatteboe.

“After some time to let Djursland melt, I feel comfortable with the feeling in the car. The speed was extremely good and that is the important thing. Now it is just a matter of picking up points, using the speed and minimizing the risks – and hopefully taking some wins to end the season,” say Linus Stjernelund, who last weekend drove JSM in the all-electric NXT Gen Cup at Mantorp Park where he finished fifth behind former Aquila driver Alex Gustafsson who won the title.

In the overall championship, Andreas Skatteboe tops with 618 points, 88 ahead of Linus Stjernelund (530), who in turn is being chased by Oscar Mellstig (500) and Leonél Skaar (428). Mellstig has consistently been on the podium during the season, while Skaar is chasing further victories in the race for the medals.

The Junior Championship is also topped by Linus Stjernelund (530), ahead of Oscar Mellstig (502) and Leonél Skaar (428), with Albin Gustafsson (376), Fredrik Lindholm (363) and Gustav Berglund (321) as outside medal threats.

In the Rookie Championship, the gold has already been secured by Linus Stjernelund – but the fight for the other podium places is still open between Albin Gustafsson (376), Gustav Berglund (321), Enzo Cohlin (283) and William Eriksson (249).

In the Senior Championship, the gold is clear for Andreas Skatteboe – but behind him it is even between Kalle Svensson (183), Johan Varland (133), Celina Hessman (116) and Michael Karpers (74).

The final weekend is run together with the end of the SSK series, where classes such as the Volvo Cup, Renault Junior Cup, Valvoline Trophy and SSK also run. The Aquila class has 23 drivers registered, and the final day on Saturday, September 27, begins at 09:00 with a pay test followed by practice at 10:40, qualifying at 12:45 and three races from 14:05 onwards.
