Stjernelund and Skatteboe continue to dominate in Aquila Formula 1000 at Gelleråsen
The opening race of the weekend was characterized by close racing and tough duels, something that has become the championship’s hallmark, but also by a clear mark from the championship leaders. Senior Andreas Skatteboe, who has impressed all season, took pole position and followed it up with a confident victory in Race 1 – his fourth of the year. Rookie Linus Stjernelund took second place ahead of Leonél Skaar in the opening race.
Race 2 once again belonged to Skatteboe, who took his second victory of the weekend and fifth of the season. Stjernelund was second again, while Albin Gustafsson took another podium place behind the leading duo.
However, the junior leader Stjernelund was able to stop Skatteboe from taking home a hat-trick of victories at Gelleråsen, in the final race Linus won and consolidated his lead in both the Junior RM and the rookie championship. Fredrik Lindholm took second place in Race 3.
“Almost a perfect weekend. I had good speed from the first test and after taking pole and two wins in Race 1 and 2, I was hoping to get a third as well. However, it was a tough fight for the victory and when I was pushed off the track the opportunity disappeared. I still managed to take the last podium place which was nice. Now it will be nice to have a little break, and then we will come back stronger later this summer,” says Andreas Skatteboe.
Oscar Mellstig took two podium places in the junior class at his home track Gelleråsen, while Kalle Svensson made a strong comeback after missing the semi-final at Mittsverigebanan. With top 5 results in the first two races, and a seventh place in the third, he is in a stable second place in the senior championship.
Fredrik Lindholm was responsible for one of the biggest upheavals of the weekend. From a position outside the top 10 in Race 1, he worked his way up to sixth place in Race 2 and took an overall podium in Race 3. Rookie Enzo Cohlin impressed with three even races and stayed within the top 10 throughout the weekend.
The prize checks from the championship sponsors Kärnkraft.se, A3 Design and A3 Ekonomi were awarded to Andreas Skatteboe, Linus Stjernelund and Gustav Berglund.
In the championships, Andreas Skatteboe leads both the overall and senior classes, while Linus Stjernelund tops the junior and rookie championships. Oscar Mellstig, Albin Gustafsson, Gustav Berglund, Fredrik Lindholm and Leonél Skaar are still in the fight behind.
Aquila Formula 1000 is now taking a short break, before the series returns with round four at Ring Knutstorp in Skåne on July 4-6.
