Linus Stjernelund excelled when Aquila Formula 1000 visited Mittsverigebanan
Aquila Formula 1000, the Nordic region’s premier entry-level series in formula car racing, offered excitement from the first to the last lap when the championship visited the Mittsverigebanan during the MidSweden Race Weekend. A weekend where rookie Linus Stjernelund shone in the spring sun.
The weekend began with a tight qualifying session where Oscar Mellstig stepped forward and took pole position. However, it was Linus Stjernelund who, despite fierce competition from Andreas Skatteboe and Mellstig himself, was able to take home his first win in the championship.
Overall, the weekend was a great success for Linus Stjernelund, who after winning race one also took second place in race two. He ended the weekend with another victory and became the weekend’s top points scorer.
“It has been an absolutely fantastic second weekend for me in the championship. I showed that I have managed to develop from Mantorp Park and was able to achieve my dream of taking a win. Also, taking the most points of all this weekend means a lot,” said Stjernelund after the race.
Senior driver Andreas Skatteboe also had a strong weekend with two second places and a win, and together with Stjernelund has made a small jump in the overall championship standings.
Several drivers showed great performances at the Mittsverigebanan. Albin Gustafsson crowned his weekend with a third place in race three, while Oscar Mellstig took two third places. Gustav Berglund was one of the most consistent drivers of the weekend with two fourth places and a fifth place.
The weekend was also a challenge for some drivers. Leonél Skaar lost valuable points after a tough weekend, including being excluded from race three after a final lap incident. Celina Hessman and Johan Varland took important points in their internal battle in the senior class.
In the championship standings, Linus Stjernelund is the leader in both the junior and rookie championships. Oscar Mellstig is 40 points behind, while Gustav Berglund is third among the juniors and second in the rookie class.
Andreas Skatteboe tops the senior championship, and leads the overall championship standings – just five points ahead of Linus Stjernelund.
The next round will be held at Gelleråsen Arena from May 30 to June 1 – where the field will gather again to continue the fight for points in the Junior-RM and Aquila Formula 1000.
