Joel Granfors hit a real home run, with pole position and three victories when the penultimate race of the year in Aquila Formula 1000, the Nordic’s leading entry-level series in formula car racing, was decided at Kinnekulle Ring last weekend.

Joel Granfors in the lead ahead of Dante Johansson and Kevin Suenson
The Eskilstuna son has driven selected parts of the season in Aquila Formula 1000 as a complement to his venture at USF Pro 2000 in the USA. When Joel now choosed to end the 2023 season early to focus and prepare for 2024, a comeback in Aquila was high on the agenda.
Granfors put in a dominant display as he took pole position by over four tenths (!), and followed that up by winning every race in the admittedly tough and even championship

Joel Granfors with the Pole-prize
– The weekend went very well. I managed to put in a really good lap in qualifying which was enough for pole. In the race, there were really good battles, but as the guys behind started to fight a little more, I managed to pull away and get a small gap. It was fun racing all weekend, and I’m looking forward to the final at Falkenberg, says Joel Granfors.

In the Senior Championship, reigning champion Kevin Suenson from Denmark managed to extend his lead against runner-up Elias Adestam to 53 points ahead of the Final. Joel Granfors, who has not driven the entire season, is third in the senior class
12-year-old Portuguese Rodrigo Seabra had his best weekend so far in the Junior Championship. The Portuguese talent took two overall podiums and was the best junior driver over the weekend at the Kinnekulle Ring. This means that Seabra is now fifth in the championship, with a chance of a medal.

Portuguese Rodrigo Seabra was the best scorer in the junior class at Kinnekulle, followed by Dante Johansson and Alexia Danielsson
– I am very happy to be back on the podium again. It has been a fantastic weekend. Tough and with many great battles and really high competition. I am very satisfied, and hope the next competition can be even better, says Rodrigo Seabra.

– It was a tough weekend. But I extended my lead, so I’m still satisfied, Dante Johansson sums up. Johansson has a lead of 118 points heading into the Final at Falkenberg.
On September 30, this year’s Final in Aquila Formula 1000 will be run at Falkenberg Motorbana together with the SSK-series. Nothing is decided in this year’s championship, which bodes well for a really exciting end to the season!
