The fourth round of the season in Aquila Formula 1000, the Nordic region’s premier entry-level open-wheel racing series, was decided during the Swedish Sports Car Meeting at Ring Knutstorp. After three tight races, the fight for every championship remains alive as the series heads into the final part of the season.

Already in qualifying, championship leader Albin Gustafsson showed continued form by securing pole position, 0.594 seconds ahead of Andreas Skatteboe. Norwegian autocross champion Even Hoff Knai qualified third, while Mason Bjerring and Enzo Cohlin rounded out the top five.

The first race was a close contest in which Hoff Knai came out on top. The Norwegian won by just 0.168 seconds over Gustafsson, while Enzo Cohlin continued his strong form and took third place. Andreas Skatteboe and Mason Bjerring followed behind them.

“I’m really pleased with the weekend and to come away with a podium, despite having some technical issues. Unfortunately the problems became too big in the final race, which ended in a broken-off race, which was obviously disappointing. At the same time it feels very positive to know the pace is there to be able to fight in the top group,” says Enzo Cohlin.

On Sunday morning Gustafsson responded immediately by winning Race 2 ahead of Skatteboe and Hoff Knai. Cohlin took yet another fourth place, and Kevin Strandberg delivered his best race weekend so far in Aquila Formula 1000 with a fifth place.

“I had a good race weekend at Knutstorp. Qualifying was tough with rain, and since I don’t have that much experience in those conditions I’m still happy with a sixth place. In race two I wasn’t fully satisfied with the car and had to live with some understeer, but for race three we made some good adjustments that made it significantly better. Then I was able to join the fight at the front of the pack until the wishbone mount broke, which caused the shock absorber to fail and ended the race. That was obviously disappointing, but that sort of thing happens sometimes in racing. At the same time it feels very positive that I’m learning every race weekend and can already compete further up the field. Also finishing third in the Senior Championship over the weekend is something I’ll take with me too,” says Kevin Strandberg.

Race three was decided by razor-thin margins. Only 0.153 seconds separated the top three across the finish line as Hoff Knai took his second win of the weekend ahead of Skatteboe and Gustafsson. Mason Bjerring and Max Stjernelund completed the top five.

Behind the leading trio, several drivers continued to impress. Enzo Cohlin followed up his Race 1 podium with another fourth place, cementing his position as third in the Junior Championship and fourth overall. Mason Bjerring took three top-five finishes, strengthening his standing as runner-up in the Rookie Championship, while Kevin Strandberg delivered his best race weekend yet with finishes of sixth, fifth, and ninth. Julius Gyllin also continued his positive development with three solid top-seven results.

Albin Gustafsson retains the lead in both the Overall Championship and the Junior Championship by a narrow margin. Ahead of the season’s three remaining rounds, only seven points now separate Gustafsson and Hoff Knai in both championships, 410 to 403.

Enzo Cohlin consolidates third place in the Junior Championship and fourth in the Overall Championship after another strong race weekend. In the Rookie Championship, Hoff Knai continues to build his lead ahead of Mason Bjerring and Carl-Wilhelm Björnemalm, while Andreas Skatteboe extends his advantage in the Senior Championship after another solid weekend.

A short summer break now follows before Aquila Formula 1000 returns to Kinnekulle Ring on July 24–26.
