After two rounds, Aquila Formula 1000 — the Nordic region’s premier entry-level formula car racing series — heads south as the series visits Sturup Raceway outside Malmö on 27–28 June, alongside the SSK series.
The opening of the season has primarily been defined by three names at the front. At the Gelleråsen opener, Norwegian crosskart driver Even Hoff Knai immediately announced himself with pole position and a race win, before Albin Gustafsson took centre stage at the MidSweden Race Weekend with pole position and two victories. Gustafsson now has three wins from the season’s first six races and leads both the Overall Championship and the Junior Championship. Hoff Knai has won two races and sits second in both the overall standings and the Junior Championship, while reigning Overall and Senior Champion Andreas Skatteboe has taken one win and chases the lead from third overall, while also topping the Senior Championship.
Behind the frontrunners, several drivers have taken steps forward during the opening rounds. William Eriksson has shown strong consistency and sits third in the Junior Championship and fourth overall after two race weekends. Enzo Cohlin closed out Mittsverigebanan with his first podium of the year and lies fifth overall, while also moving up to fourth in the Junior Championship. Pete Norbäck has collected important points across both weekends, and Carl-Wilhelm Björnemalm, Mason Bjerring and Max Stjernelund have continued to develop and establish themselves higher up the results.
In the Rookie Championship, Hoff Knai leads ahead of Carl-Wilhelm Björnemalm and Dane Mason Bjerring.
The former STCC circuit Sturup Raceway presents a further new challenge for several of the drivers, with its dynamic character and absence of any longer straights.
“Sturup is a circuit where I’ve been quick before, and it has produced good racing in previous years. The goal is clearly wins again — I also think I’m one of the few who has raced there before, so that’s definitely an advantage,” says Andreas Skatteboe.
The event runs alongside the SSK series and a large number of classes including the Danish Nordic 4, setting the stage for an action-packed racing weekend at the Skåne circuit.
Aquila Formula 1000 gets underway with practice and qualifying on Saturday, before the first two races are decided later the same day. On Sunday the weekend concludes with a warm-up and the third race. All races will be streamed live via Aquila Formula 1000 on YouTube.
