After four rounds and an increasingly tight championship battle, the fifth round of this year’s Aquila Formula 1000, the Nordic region’s premier entry-level single-seater series, is now approaching. During Raceweek at Kinnekulle Ring, 17 drivers will gather for another intense race weekend alongside the SSK series, before the series leaves the country for two rounds abroad.
After a couple of weeks’ well-deserved summer break, Aquila Formula 1000 returns to the track this weekend for the final Swedish round before the championship heads abroad. After Kinnekulle, only Rudskogen in Norway and Ring Djursland in Denmark remain, as the fight for the championship titles intensifies.
After four rounds, Albin Gustafsson continues to top both the Overall Championship and the Junior standings. The driver from Västerås sits on 410 points, just seven ahead of Norway’s Even Hoff Knai on 403. Behind the duo, Enzo Cohlin is chasing in third place in the junior class with 270 points, while Andreas Skatteboe is third in the Overall Championship with 374 points.
“Kinnekulle will probably be very close, like the previous races. It’s a fun track and I think we’ll see hard racing again. I’m going to give everything to try to pull away a bit in the championship,” says Albin Gustafsson.
In the Rookie Championship, Hoff Knai has built a clear lead with 403 points, ahead of Denmark’s Mason Bjerring on 245 and Carl-Wilhelm Björnemalm on 187. In the Senior Championship, Andreas Skatteboe continues to set the pace with 374 points, ahead of Celina Hessman and Johan Varland.
For Skatteboe, a track where he has previously enjoyed great success awaits.
“Kinnekulle is my favorite track with the Aquila car, a real rollercoaster of a circuit that offers really great racing. It takes a lot of tactics and planning to win. Last year I took three wins there, so the goal is to take even more this year,” says Andreas Skatteboe.
Behind the frontrunners in the standings, the battle continues to intensify. Enzo Cohlin has established himself as a strong challenger after several podium finishes in recent rounds, while Mason Bjerring has steadily closed in on the top and cemented his second place in the rookie class. Julius Gyllin, Kevin Strandberg, and Embla Larsson have also made clear progress during the season and continue to gather valuable points ahead of the finale.
The race weekend at Kinnekulle Ring kicks off with optional practice on Friday. Saturday brings testing, qualifying, and the first race, before the weekend is decided with two more races on Sunday. As usual, the races will be streamed via Aquila Formula 1000 on YouTube.
