During the weekend, the eighth and final round of the Aquila Formula 1000 Championship, the Nordic region’s leading entry-level series in formula car racing, was held in beautiful Falkenberg. In three exciting heats the season was decided and this year’s champions was crowned.

In the Senior Championship, Danish Kevin Suenson defended his championship title from last year. Suenson went into the weekend with a 53-point lead over Elias Adestam, and although Adestam was the top scorer in the final with a win and two second places, Kevin Suenson was able to secure the title.

Kevin Suenson won the Senior Championship before Elias Adestam (Elias had to leave earlier for a sponsor-meeting) and Joel Granfors

– It feels amazing to win this year’s championship. The car and the team have worked perfectly this year and there have been really tough battles with Elias Adestam and Joel Granfors. There are also many fast juniors who offered tough opposition this year, says Kevin Suenson.

Elias Adestam, who two weeks ago became the first ever champion of the all-electric NXT Gen Cup, has had a super strong season in this year’s Aquila F1000, where he took his first victories in the championship and also challenged Suenson for the Senior-title all the way to the finish line. Adestam finishes second in the standings.

During the season, national team driver Joel Granfors has combined driving in Aquila Formula 1000 with his main focus on American USF Pro 2000. Granfors missed the Aquila sub-competition at Sturup in June, and finishes third in the Senior Championship.

Junior champion was Dante Johansson from Katrineholm after a fantastic effort during the season. Already in the premiere at Kinnekulle Ring in May, Johansson moved up to the championship lead, and has managed to stay there all season. Dante has many times become the best junior, and has taken several total race victories. During the season, Johansson has collected fantastic 33,000 SEK in prize money!

Dante Johansson becomes this years junior champion ahead of Viktor Karlsson and Andreas Skatteboe

– It feels very good to bring home the junior title in this incredibly strong race series. I am very happy with my season. I am also happy with my performance, and with how the season ended. Throughout the season I have learned a lot about racing, which I look forward to using in the future, says Dante Johansson.

As winner of the Junior Championship, Dante Johansson wins a test day in a Formula 4 car. He also became Best rookie ahead of Portuguese talent Rodrigo Seabra in second.

The fight for second place in the Junior Championship was a really close fight at Falkenberg. Andreas Skatteboe was second with a 19 points advantage over Viktor Karlsson. But as Skatteboe was forced to retire for the first time in his Aquila career with a broken drive shaft, and Karlsson with a solid weekend was able to overtake and take second place in the championship!

Alexia Danielsson

Alexia Danielsson ends a strong season, with a pole position at the Mittsverigebanan, fourth in the table. Robin Hafström finishes fifth ahead of 12-year-old Portuguese Rodrigo Seabra, who had to sit out the final.

In the rookie table, it was incredibly even between Richard Olson and Fredrik Lindholm in third place, where both finished on exactly the same score. Where Olson on distinction took third place.

– What a fantastic season we’ve had. Incredibly close and exciting races right through. And the young guns have really given the established old stars a solid match right through. Even those who started the season a little more slow were really up to speed at the end. A large part of the explanation for this is that in many cases the established drivers coach the juniors and this creates increased speed and consistency, say Michael Karpers, promotor of Aquila Formula 1000.
– I’m extremely proud of our drivers and the friendship and cooperation they show in the pits despite fierce competition on track!!

Planning for the 2024 season is underway, and news about the upcoming season will be presented shortly.
