After a one month break, Aquila Formula 1000, the Nordics’ premier entry-level series in formula car racing, is back with a double header at Mittsverigebanan outside Sundsvall.

The race weekend, which runns during the ALM Race Weekend together with Legends MidSweden Trophy and Mittcup Grande Speciale, offers a lot of practice sessions starting with practices on Thursday and all of Friday. Qualifiers and three races are run on Saturday, followed by further qualifiers and three races on Sunday!

In the Senior Championship, Elias Adestam took the lead after the last race at Sturup Raceway in Skåne, where Adestam won all the three races. Elias also made history a few weeks ago when he won the first race in the NXT Gen Cup, the world’s first electric touring championship for juniors.

Kevin Suenson is only five points behind Adestam in the standings.

– There are only good feelings for the weekend. It’s a completely new track that I’ve never driven on before. Also, it’s a double header with double points, which means it’s incredibly important to have a consistent weekend. We will see what we can do in quali and work from there. Hopefully it will be a replay of the result from Sturup, says Adestam.

Joel Granfors is also back in Aquila and the senior class. After an intense schedule in the USA, where Joel runs the USF Pro 2000 and fights for the top positions, he uses the summer break to sharpen his form in Aquila – where he is also third in the championship after strong start of the season.

– It’s a fun course. It’s very technical, and a course I’ve never driven before. So it will be an exciting weekend with tight racing, says Joel Granfors.

In the Junior Championship, Dante Johansson from Katrineholm leads after a good start to the season. Richard Olsson and Andreas Skatteboe are have had a good trend in recent races and are chasing Dante in the tight championship.

– Mittsverigebanan is a new track for me with new är en ny bana för mig, with new challenges. I will do my best to maintain the series lead, says Dante Johansson.

Behind the top three in the standings, Robin Hafström and Viktor Karlsson are challenging Skatteboe on third place. Portuguese talent Rodrigo Seabra is sixth in the class ahead of the restart after the summer break.

During the ALM Race Weekend, races four and five of the season are run in Aquila Formula 1000. After that, still three races await in the autumn.

– Very exciting to be here at Mittsverigebanan. The weekend will be a bit of a training camp for our drivers with an incredible amount of driving spread over four days. The idea of Aquila Formula 1000 is to hone our drivers’ racecraft, so this double header is absolutely perfect for us. It will be incredibly interesting to see which of our drivers will adapt to the new track the fastest, says Michael Karpers, promotor of Aquila Formula 1000.

The weekend begins with tests on Friday. Qualifiers and three races per day are run on Saturday and Sunday respectively. The races are live streamed on Svensk Bilsport TV and Aquila Formula 1000’s YouTube channel.
