The Aquila Formula 1000 2026 season got a dramatic conclusion when this year’s seventh and final round was decided under tough conditions at Denmark’s Ring Djursland. Rain, strong gusts of wind, and varying grip levels tested the drivers throughout the final weekend. After three races it was clear that Norway’s Even Hoff Knai had secured the championship title, 23 points ahead of Albin Gustafsson. Meanwhile, already-crowned senior champion Andreas Skatteboe capped off his run in the championship in the best possible way — with victory in all three races.

Heading into the final, just 19 points separated Hoff Knai and Gustafsson at the top of both the Junior-RM standings and the overall championship. From the start it was clear nothing would come easy in the shifting conditions. Hoff Knai was fastest in qualifying, just 36 thousandths ahead of Skatteboe, and the championship fight would stay alive all the way to the season’s final race.

For Hoff Knai, the final began with a second-place finish behind Skatteboe in the first race. Gustafsson was forced to retire at the same time, giving the Norwegian a stronger position heading into the rest of the weekend.

But drama struck in race two. Hoff Knai crashed and damaged his car so badly that the monocoque needed repairs. Meanwhile, Gustafsson crossed the line second behind Skatteboe, and the championship was wide open again.

Intense work between races meant Hoff Knai’s car was repaired in time for the third and decisive race. The task there was clear — bring the car home and secure the points needed. With a sixth-place finish, Hoff Knai did exactly that and celebrated the championship title after the finish.

“Wow, words can’t describe this feeling and how much it means. After an exciting start to the day, nothing was decided until the final race. There I had just one job, and that was to bring it home. We did that and secured the championship. Absolutely crazy! I’m forever grateful to everyone who made this possible. We didn’t just show up to the start — we won the whole thing. Thank you so, so much,” says Even Hoff Knai.

Hoff Knai ends the season on 676 points, 23 ahead of Gustafsson on 653. The Norwegian thereby wins the overall championship, the Junior-RM title, and the rookie championship. Denmark’s Mason Bjerring finished second in the rookie class, while Carl-Wilhelm Björnemalm took third.

Alongside the championship drama, Andreas Skatteboe delivered the standout sporting performance of the final weekend. The senior championship had already been secured before the final, which also turned out to be Skatteboe’s last race in Aquila.

Having been just 0.036 seconds off the fastest qualifying time, he won all three races and took a maximum 115 points over the weekend. Behind him, the challengers shuffled in the tricky weather, but Skatteboe stayed clear of trouble and closed out the season with 614 points.

“The season has been tough but fun. The goal was to enjoy myself this year, and I think I’ve managed that. It’s been hard-fought all season, and even though the results weren’t as successful as last year, I’m satisfied. The final weekend couldn’t have gone much better. P1 in practice and P2 in qualifying, just 0.03 off pole. Then being able to win all three races couldn’t feel better,” says Andreas Skatteboe.

Behind Skatteboe, Celina Hessman finished second in the senior championship and Johan Varland third.

The final also delivered several strong performances across the whole field. Carl-Wilhelm Björnemalm had his best points haul of the year, finishing with third place in race two and an impressive second place in the closing race. The result lifted him to fifth in the junior championship and third in the rookie class.

Pete Norbäck was also one of the big standouts of the final weekend. After a third place in race one, he bounced back from a retirement in race two to take another third place in the final.

Denmark’s William Sterup Nielsen made his first appearance of the season and quickly showed he could challenge the more experienced drivers. After a sixth place in race one, he followed up with two straight fourth places.

Agnes Varland also showed strong pace over the weekend, while the rain and the tricky track made the final a serious challenge for the entire field.

In the Junior-RM standings, Mason Bjerring finished third behind champion Even Hoff Knai and runner-up Albin Gustafsson. The championship podium thus took on an international flavor, with Norway, Sweden, and Denmark all represented.

After seven rounds, the Aquila Formula 1000 2026 season has now come to a close. Even Hoff Knai leaves the year as overall, junior, and rookie champion, while Andreas Skatteboe secured the senior title for the second year running.

Looking ahead to 2027, Aquila Formula 1000 is also considering the possibility of expanding the series further. One possible format under consideration is eight rounds split across four races in Sweden, two in Norway, and two in Denmark, though the calendar and format for next season have not yet been finalized.
